Giulio Cappellini con il premio Compasso D'Oro dalla carriera


The art director of Icone received the world’s oldest and most prestigious award for Italian design.

During the evening of Monday 20 June in the spaces of the ADI Design Museum, awards were presented to the winners of the XXVII Compasso d’Oro.

Among them, Giulio Cappellini the creative director of Icone Luce, received the Compasso d’Oro to the carrier for his fundamental contribution to the world of design and for his tireless research in the field.

The award is a tribute to the profound curiosity, far-sightedness and audacity of Giulio Cappellini, known internationally as one of the sector’s leading trendsetters and talent scouts.

Great passion, great desire to work and above all the thought that there is still a lot to be done in design: it is not true that everything has already been designed“.

In accepting the award Giulio Cappellini recalls a master:

I think our task is, yes, to create useful and beautiful objects, but, as the great Castiglioni said, also to make people smile and dream“.

He was responsible for the discovery of great professionals, from Jasper Morrison to Nendo, passing through Marc Newson, Marcel Wanders and the Bouroullec brothers to Elena Salmistraro, Matěj Janský and Cyril Dunděra, Leonardo Talarico, Stefano Panterotto and Alexis Tourron, Johan Lindstén and Sebastian Herkner many have emerged and grown thanks to his foresight and support.
