The light of 2022: central, warm and scenic

New year’s lighting trend according to Giulio Cappellini, Icone art director.

In 2022, light will once again play a major role in interior design.

Both the light intensity, and its colour, and the luminaires are becoming increasingly important. Warm and soft light give a sense of great intimacy to both private and public spaces in a mix of state-of-the-art light sources.

The return of large chandelier supported by spotlight or hidden lights in the room are definitely the current trend.

Full and mellow colors of the walls and furniture, from warm beiges to greens, ochres to burgundy, need lighting that brings out the overall atmosphere to the full.

Not more punctiform lights but a general warm and comfortable lighting.

The lamps, simple in shapes, increasingly emphasise the use of material, often precious and with sophisticated workmanship, both manual and industrial. Brass, copper and bronze in their infinite textures and shades endure.

After years using plastic material I notice the return of glass that, with his uncountable treatments, gives a magical effect to the light.

There is also a strong emphasis on the use of LED and energy-saving lighting.

This means that the lighting is no longer cold and uniform, but intense, almost theatrical.
